UPDATE 06/09/2022

When we talk about live broadcasting, we distinguish two types of broadcasting: the “real live” where the content is broadcasted at the very moment it is filmed and the “fake live” where the content is filmed in advance and broadcasted in live conditions. It is often customary to use the fake live format because it presents fewer complexities and constraints than a real live. What are the advantages of a fake live and how to broadcast it?

What is a fake live?

Generally, when we watch a live video broadcast on the Internet, the speaker is filmed and broadcast in real time either on social networks such as Facebook live, LinkedIn live, Youtube, Twitter, etc., or on a private interface such as the Vodalys player.

Contrary to the “real live” which allows to broadcast a live video capture, the “fake live” or “live play-back” consists in broadcasting at a determined time a pre-recorded content. To do this, a live video stream must be generated from one or more video files. This process is often found on television, where reports, films and live broadcasts alternate.

The advantages of a fake live

Although broadcasting a “real live” is particularly simple and quick to implement, broadcasting a “fake live” which has already been recorded has many advantages: no technical hazards, no stress, simpler integration of textual or visual elements, better video quality, etc. In short, a deferred broadcast eliminates all the risks and complexities of a real live broadcast. And what’s more, the audience doesn’t see anything but fire and thinks it’s live! This makes you available during the live broadcast to interact with your community in other ways (chat, phone, etc.).

How to create and broadcast a fake live?

Two solutions are recommended for the broadcasting of a live fake: the OBS Studio software which allows to broadcast and mix different video sources and the Vodalys.Studio platform which allows to create a multitude of projects in an easier and more efficient way.

1.      OBS Studio, a free software

OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software) is a free and open source software that allows you to create video recordings for live streaming from your desktop.

To do this, add the source you want to record your video from and set up a broadcast output to the streaming platform.

2.      Vodalys.Studio, the simplest and most efficient solution

The other most recommended solution for its simplicity and efficiency is to create a “conference project” on your vodalys.studio account in order to create a project for your fake live. We explain below the steps step by step. From the Vodalys.studio interface, go to “Sources” section and click on “Media” icon, then on “Video file”.

Interface Vodalys

Select your file in your folders and start the transfer to the platform.

Téléchargement vidéo Vodalys

Vodalys.Studio receives the file, checks its quality and converts it to the right format for a broadcast in optimal conditions.

Conversion vidéo Vodalys

Check your video and your settings. Add the positioning of a given time code (TC-in and TC-out) on the source of your video file if you want.

Launch in comfort your fake live from your Vodalys.Studio project

To launch your fake live, you just have to activate the broadcasting of the video file on the Vodalys.Studio broadcasting stream (in “Studio” screen).

Click on “Start streaming” button to start your fake live broadcast.

Diffusion de votre faux live

It’s already over! Vodalys.Studio broadcasts your fake live in the web interface of the video player, accessible to the audience of your event. The live stream can also be retransmitted to social networks.
