In a few years, live streaming has become a major sales channel in China. The latest <a href="https://www.iresearchchina.com/content/details7_67760.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report from iSearch</a> shows that it weighed nearly $190 billion at the end of 2020, up from $61 billion in 2019, and is expected to exceed $774 billion by 2023. Enough to conquer a large audience! But some prerequisites are necessary to broadcast in the Middle Kingdom. Indeed, the Chinese government has a reinforced control of incoming video streams. So how can we meet these conditions and broadcast live video content to China?

<h2 class="has-vivid-green-cyan-color has-text-color">The essential use of a CDN to broadcast live abroad</h2>



To broadcast live videos abroad, a few conditions must be met. Broadcasting video content to an international audience requires CDN technologies (Content Delivery Network).



A CDN is a network of thousands of servers allowing content to be delivered live to a large audience that can reach tens of thousands of simultaneous connections, in a fluid and qualitative manner.



Whether a company is planning to broadcast an internal event to its employees in China or a brand wants to reach its Chinese customers, the need to broadcast a live event to China is increasingly important.



However, if the main CDNs on which the retransmission of video content in streaming is based at a global scale already allow to broadcast in the whole world or almost, as for example the <a href="https://www.akamai.com/solutions/content-delivery-network" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Akamai CDN</a>, these mainly American solutions don’t have servers in China and consequently, the streams broadcasted through these solutions are very often blocked in China.



Indeed, as the Chinese government is exercising a reinforced control of incoming video streams by setting up a « Great Firewall » or « Great Digital Wall » (referring to the Great Wall of China), specific solutions are necessary to broadcast to China.
